I enjoyed a fantastic day of birding around Lahore with Bilal. We met up very early and had some amazing breakfast in the old city. He know all the right places to see different types of birds, as well as other spectacles like wild boar, and fruit bats. Geese, Hornbills, and Shikras were a highlight for me, as well as target species. He has an excellent command of English and it was fun to spend the day with him, and learn a bit about Pakistani culture, Lahore, and the regional conservation efforts. His selection for dinner was fantastic - I can’t wait to return to Hira Charga on Temple Road with him again one day. And, mashallah, I never get tired of Black Kites!

I spent two half-days with Bilal in the Lahore area and we got in some very good birding. Pakistan was totally new to me so we got several new species (for me), including Common and Yellow-eyed Babbler, Greater Coucal, Black Drongo, White-browed Fantail, Grey Francolin, Purple Heron, White-throated Kingfisher, Red-wattled Lapwing, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Indian Pond-heron, Oriental Magpie Robin, Long-tailed Shrike, Asian Pied Starling, Purple Sunbird, Cetti's Bush-warbler, Baya Weaver, Indian White-eye and many others that we already have in Europe such as Black Kite. Also mammals, Jackal, Northern Palm Squirrel and Indian Flying-fox (a big bat). Bilal if friendly and very informative about both the wildlife and everything else in Pakistan. If I get a chance, I will return to visit the Himalaya's with him to see some of the specialist high-altitude species.
