Amani nature reserve is perhaps the best birdwatching block in the famous eastern arc moutains.The area covers 8380 ha just 35km west of Tanga town ,and stretches to both muheza and korogwe districts.The habitat is typically of submontane,decidious and semi decidious lowland forest which host some of the sort out birds by birders such as the endemic longbilled forest warbler,near endemic amani sunbird ,sokoke pipit and sokoke scops owl.This site has been a nature reserve since 1997 and an important bird area(IBA)and since it has received significant support from the tanzania forest agency and other stakeholders.it is known internationally as a site of high biodiversity of Endemic,near endemic threatened and endangered flora and fauna.The amani botanical garden which is the oldest in africa was established in 1902 covers an area of 340 ha and has over 1000 different species of plants from all over the world, several species of african violet are endemic here and others near endemic which are one of the spread endemic species in the eastern arc mountains

Amani nature reserve is almost half way from arusha and dar(330km).Buses takes 5-6.5 hours to reach muheza from either side,then from muheza to amani is 30 minutes drive(30km away)public transport from either moshi or dar to muheza will cost around 7usd per person.The amani forest camp at emau hills offers transport services at a cost per car starting off at 150usd to 230 usd depending on the distance check www.amaniforestcamp.com
