New Vision ECO City

23.73536 , 90.29948

Bangladesh

New Vision Eco City is owned by the New Vision company. At some point it will be developed into housing like the rest of Dhaka, but currently it is farmland that makes for very good birding. During the summer (rainy season) the species counts will be lower, but Black Bittern, one of the main attractions at the site, is possible to see on almost every visit. During the winter the species counts will be higher with 50+ species easily possible in a morning of birding including birds like Eurasian Wryneck, Bluethroat, Booted Eagle, etc.

With a list of over 150 species this is one of the best birding spots right around Dhaka.

• have a limited distribution range and/or are rare on a global level
• are most sought-after by birdwatchers at this site
• and are relatively easy to see at this site (year-round or seasonally)

Early morning is the best time of day for birding here as it is in many places, but it is not as key as it is in many forested areas. Plan to spend at least 3 hours if you want to cover the area well.

There is one main trail around the large pond that is fairly obvious to take. Besides that you can take almost any of the smaller trails around the fields as well.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding

There have not been any robberies at this location but it would be wise not to come before sunrise or stay after sunset. Some foggy winter mornings after sunrise also may not be safe. Probably best to come with someone else especially if you are not from Bangladesh.

The local villagers sometimes warn of the Golden Jackals that are in the area, but these are not usually a threat to humans. There are mosquitoes some of the year and the trails tend to be rough and can be slippery.

Are there any security issues or other annoyances at this site? For
instance, these may include:
• offenses like robbery or theft
• natural hazards
• dangerous or annoying animals or plants (mosquitoes, leaches, thorn bushes, etc.)
• noise pollution
