The Bleistätter Moor/Tiebelmündung reserve lies at the eastern end of the Ossiacher See in the Carinthian Lake District, where the river Tiebel runs into the lake. In 2017 the river was dammed to create a wetland and improve the water quality in the lake by reducing agricultural run-off. Thanks to careful monitoring before and after, the effects of the damming can be seen clearly. Numbers and diversity of water birds and waders have increased, while certain land birds such as Red-backed Shrike have declined. The result is the most important wetland in the province of Kärnten (Carinthia), with over 160 species recorded. Breeding wetland species include Little Bittern, White Stork, Great Egret and Black-crowned Night Heron.  Wintering waterfowl include Goldeneye, Pochard and Ferruginous Duck.

Some of the most sought-after species are summer visitors, such as White Stork (April-August), Little Bittern (May-early September) and Eurasian Golden Oriole (late April-July). Some waterfowl such as Pochard, Ferruginous Duck and Goldeneye are winter visitors. Shorebirds such as Green and Wood Sandpiper occur on spring and autumn passage.

Two ways to view the site include:

(1) walking or cycling along the Dammweg from the village of Steindorf, then along Bleistätter Moor Landesstrasse. These roads offer views of the wetlands, but exploring them by car is not recommended since there are no safe or legitimate parking spaces.

(2) walking along the path leading south from Steindorf to the observation tower (Ossiacher Moorturm).

These two routes can be combined into a circuit. Such a visit might last from one and a half to two hours depending on the avifauna present.

There is a railway station at Steindorf and a bus stop in Alt-Ossiach on the south bank of the lake.
