Guilherme took me on a guided birding trip for a morning in Tijuca Forest. On my own, I would never have seen and identified the birds we saw without his expertise. It was exciting to add a number of new species to my life list. I highly recommend Guilherme as a birding guide.

E fiquei agradavelmente surpreendido , não é a minha primeira vez no Brasil e partilhei com o Guilherme uma lista do que estava interessado em ver e piquei muitos lifers , registamos cerca de 80 especies num só dia . I was coming to Rio da Janiero for a work trip of several weeks and wanted to maximize my free time with birding. I did a little research on Birding Travel on Facebook and saw recommendations for Guilherme Serpa. I reached out through WhatsApp and immediately received a wonderful response. We made arrangements to bird the Botanical Garden in Rio and then to travel east to Resende/Itatiaia natural park area to bird at a private bird lodge for the weekend. Guilherme made all the arrangements - picking me up from my hotel, guiding, and lodging and food arrangements. What an amazing trip - saw so many birds and learned a lot about their habitats and unique aspects. My lifer list exploded. The areas that we visited were unique, remote, and quite beautiful. Guilherme speaks very good English, knows his birds and where to find them in many different habitats, and is always available to help you after your trip to identify that bird in the photo that you can't remember! He is very nice, pleasant, honest, and easy going. Easy to communicate with and responsive. I had such an excellent weekend that I hired him the following weekend for a full day of birding in a completely different habitat northwest of Rio da Janiero city - Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos. Many more birds and lots of beautiful scenery made for a great final day in Brazil with Guilherme. Highly recommend.

I had a great experience birdwatching with Guilherme. We spent half a day in Tijuca. Pickup from my hotel was punctual, which allowed for a good 4h of birding. Even though it wasn't the best season for birding (early March), we managed to see over 20 species thanks to Guilherme's skills and knowledge. He knew exactly where we might be most likely to see which bird and we usually did see them. He's very skilled at calling birds and identifying them. He also advised me to spend the afternoon at the botanical gardens, which was a great tip as the gardens are beautiful and I ended up spotting a number of other birds there as well. I'd highly recommend Guilherme.

My husband and I had a great experience with Guilherme on our birding day trip in Rio. We greatly appreciated Guilherme's willingness to guide us so close to the holidays, and especially in some very hot weather. He offered to coordinate a driver for the day, to facilitate seeing more areas of the Tijuca National Park. We thought this was definitely worth it and recommend that future clients do the same. He is a very nice and easygoing guy with a great ear for bird calls, and he was able to quickly ID the birds from both sight and sound. During our morning in Tijuca National Forest, we saw 44 different bird species, as well as some coati and capuchin monkeys. After lunch, we spent about ~1.5 hours and saw some 25 bird species in the Botanical Garden before my husband and I elected to finish up the day early due to heat. One highlight was seeing a buff-necked ibis - a first at the Gardens. Guilherme took great pictures and we noticed its beak was broken. Guilherme later followed up to tell us that the Garden staff had rescued the ibis and taken it for treatment, and we appreciated that he took the time to update us. We highly recommend Guilherme to anyone looking for a guide for birding around Rio de Janeiro. His passion for birding is obvious and you won't be disappointed.

Excellent birding guide-very polite, soft spoken and patient with good skills in communicationg in English as well. I went to the Tijuca National Park and Botanical gardens with him a week or so ago on a vacation to Rio. Being from India, most of the birds were lifers for me and I increased my score by seventeen in the 4-6 hrs of birding with him. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly! Would strongly recommend him. When planning a business travel to Rio de Janeiro, I asked and received recommendations on Ghuilerme for local birding guiding services. While in Rio, I had unexpected rainy weather, and I followed Ghuilerme's suggestions to quickly change the plan, and head to Itatiaia National Park. That day was unforgettable from the perspective of many bird species that we saw, as well as Ghuilerme himself: very professional guidance, pleasant character and very friendly attitude, flexibile to accommodate. I truly feel i met a friend in Brazil, and for sure I will connect and use his services again when there.

Guilherme helped reacquaint us with Jardim Botânico and record a first sighting (in Jardim Botânico) of the Linneated Woodpecker. Great guy; friendly; speaks English.

I hired Guilherme while in Rio for two days. He arranged a pair of day trips that suited my interest; one was a boat trip through a mangrove wetland and Tijuca National Park. His knowledge of birds, and where to find them was greatly appreciated. I found him a pleasure to bird with, superb at communicating and a plus at accommodating my birding interests. His knowledge of English and his help in learning a bit of Portuguese was greatly appreciated. I will use Guilherme on my next trip to the Brazilian State of Rio.

Guilherme guided us for a 3-day birdwatching trip to the Serra dos Órgãos, RdJ state, Brazil. He is an outstanding guide. What partially stood out to me as impressive was his ability to recognise each and every bird call coming from deep in the undergrowth or above us in the canopy. Such a skill is essential to birdwatching effectively in this region of Brazil, where the forests are so thick and impenetrable. My personal highlight was 4 Saffron toucanets. We saw an incredible range of birds (many of them regional endemics), and this was thanks to Guilherme ~ I would recommend his services without hesitation!

Guilherme was recommended during a recent visit to Rio de Janeiro. I had been birding throughout my two week stay and was interested in a guide to help explore a new area and an assist in identifying local birds on a hike. He had an excellent ear for bird calls that helped us see over 30 species on a 4 hour morning hike in Tijuca National forest. We learned he has been birding in this area since 2005, knows most of the good spots to see birds and is on track to count o er 1000 birds (with photos) by the end of the year! He used a call back technique which drew in many birds we were able to get close look, which can be challenging to do in the tropical forest environment. He was even able to help me identify birds had seen in previous days to add to my ebird lists! Would recommend!

I hired Guilherme for a day of guiding me at Tijuca National Park and the Botanical Gardens in Rio De Janeiro. He came highly recommended and after spending a short amount of time with him I could see why. He is an excellent birder with a very sharp ear. He really knows his bird songs and this is so helpful in finding the skulkers and birds who live in the canopy. He is a very pleasant person and wants his customer to have a great experience. I had 42 lifers the day I was with him and saw or heard almost 80 species.. This was in July, middle of winter. I highly recommend Guilherme if you are in the Rio area. 5/5 stars for me.

Guilherme fue un excelente guía en mi último viaje a Río de Janeiro. Fuimos al Jardim Botanico donde logré fotografiar muchas especies locales. Guilherme me guío a las distintas partes del Jardim, donde con paciencia llamó a cada una de las aves con su vocalización, y generó el espacio para que pudiera sacar muy buenas fotos. I have never used a guide before. When coming to Brazil I wanted to make the most of my birding time and hired Guilherme as a guide for a half day at Parque Tijuca. Guilherme was excellent. He catered the trip for what I was looking for. If we heard a bird, but did not see it he would show me what was calling on his phone so I could see what the calling bird looked like. He also did a great job getting me on birds that he spotted. He is very knowledgeable on birds of southeast Brasil and I highly recommend him. If I return to Brasil and hire a guide I will contact Guilherme!

The beat part of my trip was bird watching in Tijuca National Park in Rio with the Guidance of Guilherme. He was able to call in so many beautiful birds. He was also knowledgeable on the floral and fauna. This was a trip of a lifetime. I highly recommend hiring Gulherme. Thanks again for this amazing adventure.

I had a great day in Tijuca with Guilherme! He was instrumental in helping me find multiple lifers and knew exactly where to go to find a lot of the more difficult targets. He knows his calls and birds well and I’d highly recommend him if you’re in the Rio area.
