About me:
Michael is a passionate naturalist, conservationist and outdoor adventurer who loves birding, walking trails and photography. He is a registered professional natural scientist, nature tour guide, birding guide, and ecotourism consultant in South Africa, with 22 years’ of industry experience. During this time he has travelled extensively throughout Southern Africa, visiting most of its many protected areas, while leading like-minded naturalists on tremendous birding and wildlife adventures. Michael loves sharing the region's abundant birding and wildlife treasures, and its many amazing destinations, with his guests as they target certain species, embark on journeys of discovery, and create special memories together.
Michael is also the founder, owner and lead tour guide for Sustain Wildlife and Birding Safaris, which is based in Somerset West, Western Cape, South Africa. Sustain Safaris leads captivating and sustainable wildlife and birding expeditions for small groups throughout Southern Africa. They specialize in endemic birding tours, rare mammals tours and extensive multi-day expeditions.
Michael has been married for 16 years, has 2 amazing children, and currently resides in Somerset West. Having also lived in Durban, Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg within South Africa has helped him discover a multitude of special birding and rare mammal hotspots around Southern Africa. He uses this valuable knowledge and experience to provide both his international and local clients with a quality guided experience.
