About me:
I am native to the island of Puerto Rico where I have been observing and studying its biodiversity, specially birds since 1999. I have worked with research related to seabird nesting, shorebird breeding ecology, and habitat use and distribution of wetland and terrestrial birds mainly in the west side of the island. I have also done work on the birds of its satellite islands like Vieques, Culebra, Mona and Desecheo island. I provide full outfitting services for a complete birding tour experience (lodging, transportation and guiding) I also have a family operated guest house with pretty good birding and close to many of the best birding hot spots in the island. Alcides is an exceptional birding guide. I was blown away about his ability to bird by ear and differentiate warblers (Adelaide, Palm, Prairie, Golden, Black Throated Blue, Purula, Yellow throat) especially during non-breeding season. With that hearing of his and knowledge of habitat, he is uncanny in his ability to spot birds, including the very tiny Tody. He is patient, very enthusiastic and knows all the right spots in Puerto Rico, including for the ultra rarities like the Puerto Rican Amazon and Plain Pigeon. He guides for the major companies as well such as Rock Jumper. I recommend Alcides also for Dominican Republic. We for sure will be asking Alcides to be our guide in the future. Traveling with friends who are birders We found Alcides to be extremely knowledgeable, interesting, and was amazing at locating and identifying birds. He also was very accommodating in picking us up at two locations, transporting us to breakfast and lunch and back to our hotels. His English is excellent! He is personable and entertaining and patient. I would definitely hire him again
