About me:
A former driver since 2001 till 2007 but work for tourism company. In the same year 2007, there's a course from department of tourism in Siem Reap, about history of Angkor era and Cambodia country and a chance to become a temple tour guide. But unfortunately as I didn't have certificate from high school, so I'm failed for that as it was my dream to be a temple tour guide. And then I have met my friend who works for local NGO name Osmose also base in Siem Reap town and they focus on wildlife protection and Environmental Education on the Tonle Sap lake and they also organized bird watching trip. He asked me to work with him as a bird guide. That time I'm really surprised because I have never heard about what the Bird Guide is. I said, okay I'll try! And then I get taught by the local teacher about bird identification. And I started working on it and then taking people out to the field to see Birds. The first bird I've learned to do identification is the storks family and pelican because All those are big birds and easy to see. I've started working for my friend for about 3 months and then I have met my other friend who works for local NGO as well called Sam Veasna Center for Wildlife Conservation ( SVC ). And I started learning about bird identification more and more when I was with SVC as in there we have an American teacher Howie Nielson, he's a dentist but he really likes Bird and he's so good at bird watching and teaching . SVC also organized bird watching trip to almost surround Cambodia country and there's where I can find small Bird and listening to the bird calls and songs and I've got more experience about bird identification and guiding as I've met lots of people from All around the world who sharing knowledge to me whether international tour leader or even the individual group who came to visit Cambodia. I was with SVC within 10 year but since 2016 till nowadays I've another working place called Cambodia Bird Guide Association ( CBGA ) local NGO who works on wildlife protection and Environmental Education, sustainable livelihood, local support. Thing have changed to me since I have job as a bird guide because when I was a driver, I've never been outside of Siem Reap town. Just take tourists to see Angkor Wat temple and others and listen to the guide saying the same story and explain to clients from day to day. But when I'm working as a bird guide, it's really " WOW " for me. I've been outside of Siem Reap city, see different place, different people, different habitats and different Birds species and others wildlife !!! And from now on I will keep doing this forever as I like it !
