About me:
My name is Roger Rodriguez Ardila, and I am a biologist with a passion for birding. I've been captivated with birds and their behavior since I was a child, which drove me to pursue a degree in this topic. I graduated from Tolima University in Ibagué, Colombia, and immediately began working on research projects aimed at studying the ecological guilds of birds in the Central Andes and the breeding biology of birds on the Pacific coast of Colombia.
My work in these projects allowed me to gain valuable experience in the field, and I soon discovered that my love for birds and science could also be channeled into a career as a birdwatching guide. Since 2014, I have been working as a birdwatching guide, initially only in the breathtaking Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and progressively expanding my reach to include other captivating regions throughout the country.
In addition to my work with birds, I also have a keen interest in reptiles and amphibians. These creatures are often overlooked but play a vital role in many ecosystems. I have studied them extensively and am always eager to share my knowledge with others.
As a guide, I've been fortunate to travel to various parts of Colombia, including some truly remote and stunning locations. Exploring 29 out of the 32 departments of the country, I can confidently claim encounters with 1,391 bird species, which represents a significant portion of the nearly 2,000 Colombia's bird species.
My goal for future journeys is to keep expanding my knowledge, recording the beauty of Colombia's biodiversity through observation and photography, and share these unique experiences with others. Colombia's extraordinary biodiversity and untamed landscapes offer limitless possibilities, and I look forward to discovering the secrets of even more bird species as my career as a birding guide continues.
