Clover Point

Canada

One of the top 20 hotspots in the Capital Regional District with over 200 species, a tally made all the more impressive when one considers it is essentially a mound of flattened earth jutting out into the ocean surrounded by rocky shoreline. An absolute must for any birder visiting Victoria, as it allows for comfortable winter sea (and storm!) watching, with additional shorebirding opportunities during Spring and Fall migration. Keep an eye out for the odd American Pipit or Lapland Longspur during migration, as they will occasionally alight at this jutting out bit of land.

Clover Point is a year-round attraction though peaks during the Winter when a wide diversity of seaducks and alcids can be scoped from the point. Fall and Spring shorebird migration also bring a good diversity to the rock shores, though you should aim to be here as the tide is going out for your best chance at shorebirds.

The spot is fairly self-explanatory, a mound of earth jutting out into the ocean with near 270 degree views of the ocean.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding
