(En français plus bas) The great diversity of habitats favors the presence of several species of birds. In the spring, the migration period and the summer, the nesting period, be sure to listen! The cries and songs heard as you walk the many trails crisscrossing the maple and coniferous forests will allow you to make very beautiful observations. You will discover the irresistible attraction of avian fauna for the Choinière reservoir, this large body of water bordering the forest. In the National Park, we meet a wide variety of warblers including the Canada Warbler, vireos including the Yellow-throated Vireo, thrushes including the Wood Thrush, flycatchers, woodpeckers and other species…. In the fall all around the Choinière reservoir, especially on the La Baie and Le Rivage trails, patient observation will be rewarded by the discovery of several dabbling ducks and divers. A visit to the Secondary Dike will allow you to meet several shorebirds: knights and sandpipers, especially when the water level is very low. Great blue herons are very numerous there, as well as cormorants and gulls. Often a bird of prey comes to make its turn and panics the entire avian population which was feeding peacefully on the edge of the body of water. During the winter we will look for the species that do not leave us and inhabit the maple grove, campsite sector: the barred owl, the Great Horned Owl, the Golden-crowned Kinglet, the peaks including the Pileated Woodpecker. Here are the star species according to the selection of star birds from Sépaq parks: Double-crested Cormorant, Ring-billed Gull, American Kingfisher, Orange-throated Warbler, Broad-winged Hawk.
FRENCH VERSION: La grande diversité des habitats favorise la présence de plusieurs espèces d’oiseaux. Au printemps, période de migration et à l’été, période de nidification soyez à l’écoute ! Les cris et les chants entendus en parcourant les nombreux sentiers sillonnant les forêts d’érables et de conifères vous permettront de faire de très belles observations. Vous découvrirez l’attrait irrésistible de la faune aviaire pour le réservoir Choinière , ce grand plan d’eau bordant la forêt. Nous rencontrons au Parc national une grande variété de parulines dont la Paruline du Canada , de viréos dont le Viréo à gorge jaune, de grives dont la Grive des bois, de moucherolles, de pics et autres espèces….
À l’automne tout autour du réservoir Choinière surtout sur les sentiers de La Baie et Le Rivage, l’observation patiente sera récompensée par la découverte de plusieurs canards barboteurs et plongeurs. Une visite à la Digue secondaire vous permettra de rencontrer plusieurs limicoles : chevaliers et bécasseaux, surtout quand le niveau de l’eau est très bas. Les grands hérons y sont très nombreux, ainsi que les cormorans et les goélands. Souvent un rapace vient faire son tour et affole toute la population aviaire qui se nourrissait paisiblement sur les abords du plan d’eau.
Durant l’hiver nous chercherons les espèces qui ne nous quittent pas et habitent l’érablière, secteur du camping : la Chouette rayée, le Grand-duc d’Amérique , le Roitelet à couronne dorée , les pics dont le Grand Pic.
