San Felipe Birding is a privately owned finca at the famous Km 18 above Cali. It is located in the Western Cordillera at an altitude of 1900 m. The finca is currently in the process of being registered as "Reserva Natural de la Sociedad Civil" and has a size of 22 ha, whereof 13 ha are covered in cloud forest. San Felipe birding offers easy access to some of the region's specialities like Chestnut Wood-Quail or various species of hummingbirds. The site has an excellent infrastructure with a variety of hides and feeders for fruit eaters and hummingbirds, which provide great opportunities for photographers. Moreover, this is one of the first birding sites in Colombia that attaches great importance to inclusiveness. It provides special infrastructure especially for blind birdwatchers or birders with low vision. The owners Clara and Carlos are great hosts.

San Felipe Birding can be visited all year round. It is highly recommended to stay overnight or arrive early morning, when the birds are fed and the chances to see some of the more secretive species are highest. A birding guide is usually provided by the reserve and will advise you which hides to visit depending on your target species.

San Felipe Birding can be visited all year round. San Felipe birding can be reached by car from Cali in less than an hour. At Km 18, take the small road that leads to the right. After 300 m you will reach the finca. You can also get to Km 18 by bus from Cali.

Km 18 is very popular on weekends, when many inhabitants of Cali escape the city to enjoy the cool climate and the countless restaurants up in the mountains. Be aware that the traffic can be very slow on such days.
