The best time to observe birds at Mirante do Gavião Lodge is during the dry season (from May to September). Watching birds at dawn will allow the sighting of several species, which become more difficult to see as the day goes down. However, even spending the whole day at the hotel you will be able to observe several species in different habitats. We recommend starting the day in one of the observation towers. As the number of species recorded takes time to continue to rise, you can walk around the hotel and head to the pier.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding

You can reach Mirante do Gavião Lodge in two ways: hiring an air taxi in Manaus or traveling by car. The air taxi is much more expensive, but it allows for an incredible view of the Anavilhanas archipelago. Transport by car or van is much more usual. It takes a three-hour journey from Manaus to Novo Airão, through a road that has beautiful views of areas with moriche palms. The hotel itself offers a transfer service.

There is a third, less usual option, which is arrival via boat. For this we recommend contacting the hotel reception for more information.

Explain from where and how to get to this site with private and public transport.

In the vicinity of the hotel you can see brown-throated sloths, tucuxis (a species of freshwater dolphin), frogs (mainly snouted treefrogs), iguanas, a good variety of fish that swim near the pier, arboreal tarantulas (such as Brick-red Pink Toe), dwarf geckos and many other animals!

From the hotel itself you can enjoy the view of the Rio Negro and the islands of the Anavilhanas archipelago. A great recommendation is to watch the sunset from one of the towers or from the pier itself.

The hotel offers several other activities, including a games room with billiards, decks, foosball and hammocks for resting. You can take a kayak from the pier whenever you want and paddle down the Rio Negro. It's a great way to observe aquatic animals up close, such as terns and tucuxis.

Add information about other attractions at this site, including
• wildlife (apart from birds)
• sights (natural, cultural, archaeological, etc.)
• activities (e.g. for non-birding companions)
