Finland

Kempeleenlahti Bay and Nature Reserve is a nationally significant bird water and a 90-hectare nature reserve. There are two bird towers in the area. Another in Vihiluoto, near the Airport Hotel Oulu along a nature trail. Another closer to Oulu next to the Myllyoja ditch. The beaches of the nature reserve are shallow and grow reeds and reeds, in some places also hinged meadows, scrub and deciduous forest. The protection rules of the protected area prohibit movement in the area from 1 May to 31 July. other than marked paths. Birds: The most common nesters of waterfowl are mallards and bald eagles. In the large reedbeds, a reed warbler and a willow locust nest. Willow birds, groves, red sparrows and red ribs predominate in the bushes and forests. The most valuable nesting species is the golden locust, which unfortunately has not been observed in the area in recent years, as it is not elsewhere in Finland. The brown hawk belongs to the regular nesting species. Collared storks and woodpeckers are also occasionally found. In the summer, feathered dog ducks, especially tails, as well as finches (up to hundreds) and oxen birds accumulate in the bay.

In the spring, the bay does not melt until May, when hundreds of tents, tufts, great crested grebes, silkworms and ducks gather there. The majority of waterfowl can be found on the northern edge of the area and near Selkäkari island. In May, there may be hundreds of bogs and liras. Other abundant wader species include e.g. marsh and lapland gull, hare gull and water swallow. During the autumn migration, as many as thousands of waterfowl (sooty chickens, tufted ducks, tentacles, silkworms, great crested newts and swimmers) accumulate in the bay due to the hunting ban in the area. You can see a lot of birds of prey, e.g. sparrow, chicken, mallard, shooting and migratory hawk feed in the area. Depending on the height of the water, you can see resting waders: feather jumps, wicks, marshes, sirens and boredom. There is a stream of small birds down to the shore forests of the bay, with ducks and finches being the most abundant.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.

• best season
