Best season is from april to november. Best months are august, september and october when most birds are breeding. As the place is quite high (900 m) it can be quite cold in may, june and july.

If it is quite cold the best will be the late mornings.

As the spot is very diverse best to stay at least 3 nights. A  regular rented car will sufice inside and out the park.

All the trails are great and some are allowed only by hiring a local guide as the park is very large.

Take the Rodovia Castello Branco out of São Paulo and exit at Tatuí (Rodovia SP 127), continuing to Itapetininga, Capão Bonito and Ribeirão Grande. From there take a 25 km unpaved road till the Park. 

It is located about 170 miles SW of Sao Paulo and 20 miles south of Capao Bonito.

You must have a reservation or a  day use permission to get in the park. There two main entrances. One from Ribeirão Grande and another from Guapiara.

Mammals can be seen with luck. Tapirs, Capybaras, Occelots, Pumas and monkeys are present. 

Keep one eye for the endangered and largest monkey in the Americas, the (Southern) Woolly-Spider Monkey.

The park is famous for its several natural and large caves.

There are at least 4 local pousadas to stay inside the park. They are not pricy and quite comfortable but simple.

There is just one restaurant inside the park and is the only the best way to have all the 3 meals. The food is not fancy but quite good.

At the restaurant there is a fruit feeder and several nice birds can be seen vey comfortably. At night the place can be visiti by pacas and tapirs.

There good restrooms in the main area of the park.
