The San Juan del Monte protected natural area is a reserve of pine forests within the Cofre de Perote area, in 2019 a fire occurred that affected a large part of the reserve even though it seems that in recent years the ecosystem has been able to recover little by little. The pine forests of the center of Veracruz are severely fragmented, which makes the reserve an important place in the conservation not only of the forests but also of the birdlife it houses.
