Mexico

The city of Xalapa has many urban parks, one of them is the El Haya Ecological Park. The park is located on the outskirts of the city, near the park there are different fragments of cloud forest therefore the vegetation of the park has certain characteristics of this ecosystem although it also has areas that have been managed, it is a small park but you will find very interesting birds.

It is a very busy park therefore you will find many people exercising, with their pets or simply walking enjoying the park. Weekends are when you will find the most people. Within the park there are some government offices and the Institute of Forestry Research of the Universidad Veracruzana.

El Haya as well as the rest of the parks in the city of Xalapa are a good option to get to know the resident birds of the area but it is also an interesting place during the winter when migratory and resident birds meet together.

It is best to start in the morning around 7:00 a.m. The park has different paths and they are all equally good, all the trails are connected and you can tour the park in the form of a circuit. You can tour the entire park in 2 hours.

The park can be visited throughout the year, in spring the resident species can be found in their reproductive season and could be easier to observe, while in autumn-winter there is an interesting combination of resident and migratory birds.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding
