The best thing about this location is that it provides good birding all year long. You are guaranteed to see lots of birds no matter the time of day. It is common to spend more than 3 hours here and could even spend the entire day. There are many different trails and each have different possible species.

Helipad Trail: This is going to be the second trail that you drive past on your way through the park. It is close to the East River Pool. This trail is going to have forest birds such as Carolina Wrens, Carolina Chickadees, warblers, Gray Catbirds, and if you're lucky, Red-cockaded Woodpeckers. Walk the trail and listen for their calls or look for movement in the pines.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding

There is a visitors center near the entrance of the park, it has been closed for a while due to Covid. There is a kiosk in the parking lot that has maps for the area.

Restrooms are near the back of the park near Headquarters Pond. Something to be aware of is that the water in the restrooms is untreated so it is not nice to look at. Close to the restroom facility is a picnic area.

Tower Mound Trail has a small blind that is helpful when viewing shorebirds on the pond.

Provide information about what type of facilities are available at
or near this site, including:
• information centers / information points
