Pan de Azúcar National Park is located in two regions of northern Chile: Atacama and Antofagasta. It's a protected natural area which's main goal is to protect the coastal desert.

Pan de Azúcar island, which is part of the park's territory, is one of the most important nesting sites for Spheniscus humboldti, known as Humboldt penguin.

Coastal desert is home to different species of shorebirds and sea birds. Some species of migratory plovers, terns and seaguls settle here during their reproductive season.
