Mikumi Np is located in Morogoro region in southern tanzania,it is the forth largest national park in Tanzania covering an area of 3230km sq established in 1964.The main feature of this park is the flood plain of the mkata river,with its swamp pools which flows north through the park,The main highway that connects dar es salaam and zambia intersects the park.The landscape of Mikumi is often compared to that of the Serengeti. The road that crosses the park divides it into two areas with partially distinct environments. The area north-west is characterized by the alluvial plain of the river basin Mkata. The vegetation of this area consists of savannah dotted with acacia, baobab, tamarinds, and some rare palm. In this area, at the furthest from the road, there are spectacular rock formations of the mountains Rubeho and Uluguru. The southeast part of the park is less rich in wildlife, and not very accessible.In this important bird area (IBA)some 11 of the 40 birds of the Zambian biome occurs here,and also 5 of the Coastal east African biome and 3 somali maasai biome

Park fees are payable at the entrance gate at 30usd pp and 10,000 tsh for east africans bur this are subject to change.The park can be accessed anytime of the year and make sure you have a 4×4 or any other car that is good for the african terrain
