Coming from the main road (251), take the turn-off at -16.56057, -43.0395 to Aldao Colares and further on to Botumirim. Note that there are other (unpaved) ways to reach Botumirim (from the South West), but if it's raining, there is more risk to get stuck on an unpaved road (or a river crossing), in the middle of nowhere.  Before visiting Botumirim, contact SAVE Brazil through (rolinhadoplanalto@savebrasil.org.br). One has to pay a 35 dollar fee (for non-Brazilians) + 50 real for the guard (per group for a 4-hr visit, e.g. from 6-10), online: https://savebrasil.colabore.org/ccyanopis/single_step . After completing the process, SAVE Brazil will arrange a guard to accompagny you in the reserve. The guard knows the territories and stake-outs of the Ground-doves, but is not a specialized bird guide.  The reserve is only 10 minutes drive from Botumirim, on an unpaved road that can be done with a 2WD vehicle with normal ground clearance. In case it rains heavily, torrential rivers are impossible to cross. In that case, the guard can quickly contact a local to drive you around the reserve in a sturdier vehicle (at a fair price).  One of the (3 known) territories of the Ground-doves is right at the marker (-16.896, -42.991). Botumirim can be visited throughout the year. There is a dry and a wet season, and while the wet season will probably stimulate birding activity and enable for more activity throughout the day, the rain can be hard and persistent in the wet season, making some unpaved roads inpassable with a 2WD vehicle, and hampering birding.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding

instance, these may include:
• offenses like robbery or theft
