Oldonyo sambu area is characterized by short acacia trees,gullies and rocky grasslands area.it is not a protected area but it is well know to produce highly sought out birds such as the localised Lyne's cisticola and Little rock thrush, sometimes the bearded vulture comes down to pick the bones from the dumpsite in the nearby gully. The erosion gully connects to the mount meru reserve just west of the oldonyo sambu market bringing down birds such as bronzy and golden winged sunbirds in cold season or when flowering loranthus are in plenty .This site can be easily be compined with the nearby engikarey lark plains and other hotspots

Drive from arusha city centre for about 20 minutes on the Arusha-Namanga road then alight at the sign board at Oldonyo sambu Public transport can be picked easily at arusha town or just next to Ngaramtoni police station which will cost less than 1usd(1000-1500tsh)
