Laem Phak Bia sandspit

Lampakbia sandspit is where several Malaysian Plovers reside and breed. The White-faced Plover has a strong preference to the area as well.

During hightide numbers of birds using the spit is limited but when the tide is low birds come. Often good numbers of Gulls and Terns.

Little, Common, Great Crested and Caspian are the dominant tern species but also Lesser Crested, Whiskered and rarely Black-naped.

The spit also is an area Gray-tailed Tattler like to use. Most of the Tattlers are just passing through though and often early on in the season before visiting birders show up.

Sanderlings are always busy feeding on the shoreline. Greater and Lesser Sandplovers along with Kentish Plovers are always there.

When the tide drops most of the regular shorebirds found on salt pans can show up: Knots, Godwits, Sandpipers etc.

Try to not go out during full high tide. Best during a drop in the tidal schedule.

It is possible to walk out to the spit but much better to hire a boat through the mangroves. That also supports the locals.

Nov-March/April is best
