Ruda Sułowska Fishponds

Poland

Nature reserve Stawy Milickie (Ruda Sułowska area).

Medieval times-old, shallow&small fishponds surrounded by thick reedbeds and alder carrs. Very rich in vegetation and various bird species, especially in the spring (migrating&breeding) and summer (breeding): great reed&reed&sedge warblers, penduline&bearded tits, grey&white herons, nightingales, kingfishers, great&little bitterns, little&great-crested&red-necked grebes, various species of ducks: ferruginous (common and easily spotted here), pochards, tufted ducks, pintales, wigeons, teals, garganeys, shovelers, gadwalls, mallards, present birds of pray like white-tailed eagles, marsh harriers, red kites, common buzzards, goshawks and sparrowhawks.

Very interesting also during autumn migration (Sept-Oct) due to its high importance as a stopover place (especially empty ponds after fish catch) for many water birds (swans, geese, black storks, herons, ducks, gulls, waders).
