Amboseli NP is best known as the land of the gentle giants and is everyone's picture of Kenya. It is located in Loitoktok district, Kajiado county in southeastern Kenya. To the south east is Kimana Santuary, the park stretches to the NW of the famous Mt Kilimanjaro on the Tanzanian border. Only at a small area of 392 sq km (151 sq mi) you will be astonished by the park's richness in terms of wildlife. The park also offers paranomic views of the icy capped Mt Kilimanjaro. Bird lovers can explore different habitats here, ranging from wetlands, to woodlands, savannah and rocky acacia scrub. The park checklist contains 420 bird species. The marshy area supports a variety of waterfowl. Birds of prey are also plenty here, 10 varieties of eagles, kites, buzzards, goshawks and harriers have been recorded. Greater and Lesser Flamingoes are sometimes seen at Lake Amboseli. The reeds and the nearby palm trees host a variety of weavers and kingfishers .The Taveta Weaver which is endemic to SE Kenya and northern Tanzania is also found here. Many species of ground dwelling birds are seen in the vast dry plains. All six species of vulture can be spotted. The lush green vegetation around the Enkongo Narok swamp host Grey Tit-flycatchers (Lead-colored Flycatchers), Mountain Yellow-warblers and Grey-olive Greenbuls.

You can reach Amboseli from Nairobi via Kajiado-Namanga road (approximately 240 km), turning left at Namanga, entering the park through the main gate. The second access point is the main Mombasa road turning right just beyond the railway bridge past Emali town and then following the Oloitoktok road for approximately 100 km turning right just past Kimana town, there is a big sign board. Daily flights from Nairobi are also available. No public transport to the park but taxis can be hired but are not allowed to get into the park.

All gates are opened at 6:00 am and closed at 6:00 pm. Permits can be paid at the gate using M-Pesa, Visa card or directly deposing to kws account at the gate. Park fees for non-residents is 60 USD for adults and 35 USD for children. For residents it's 1000 ksh (500 ksh for children). Park fees are subjected to change anytime, especially during the the peak season.

All gates are opened at 6:00am 6:00 am and closed at 6:00pm.permits 6:00 pm. Permits can be paid at the gate using mpesa, visa M-Pesa, Visa card or directly deposing to kws account at the gate .park gate. There are several lodges and camps in and around Amboseli, such as Tawi Lodge which offers first class accomodation and cuisine, Amboseli Serena Lodge and Amboseli Lodge are found inside the park. The luxurious Tortilis Camp is located just outside the park, it has excellent food and swimming.

The warden's guest house can be booked through the Kenya wildlife service on a self catering basis. The 3 camping sites in the park have only basic amenities. Other lodges include Amboseli Sopa Lodge, Satao Elerai Camp, Kimana Zebra Camp, Oltukai Lodge etc.

Animals here are tamed to vehicles but warry of people on foot, a rogue elephant might attack without warning so you should be extra careful when on foot. Some parts of Amboseli being swampy means that it can be a breeding site for mosquitoes especially during the rainy season, so carry a mosquito repellent with you. People here are friendly and welcoming always.
