In winter you get hundreds if not thousands of ducks and geese (especially lots of barnacle geese), and in spring and autumn you can expect some fun waders or some other scarce migrating birds. Keep in mind many waders migrate throughout summer as well.
One of the top places for birding in the area of Ghent.

As previously mentioned, there's two birding hides (map).

The main info center is at the end of the Driepikkelstraat, with a large parking lot in front. You can get yourself a drink and take a peek into the history of this place in their little museum! As previously mentioned, there's two birding hides (map).

Just don't put your costly stuff behind your windshield in the parking and you should be good. 
There's often lots and lots of people walking around, especially with warm weather. A good tip to avoid that is to go birding early in the morning.

Are there any security issues or other annoyances at this site? For
instance, these may include:
• offenses like robbery or theft
• natural hazards
• dangerous or annoying animals or plants (mosquitoes, leaches, thorn bushes, etc.)
• noise pollution
